Associate Pastor of Music and Worship Job Description

The First Baptist Church of Asheboro, NC is seeking a spirit filled, committed Associate Pastor for Worship and Music who has a passion for and the ability to lead an extensive music program that includes dynamic  contemporary and traditional services as well as a graded musical program of children through senior adults. This person must be a called, committed Christian seeking to fulfill God’s purpose in his/her life as well as the life of the church. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, organizing worship services in conjunction with the pastor, leading a praise team and band in the contemporary service and leading the worship choir and hand bell choir for the traditional service. This person must be a good team player with strong organizational, training and enlisting skills to engage lay persons in leading and helping in many of the children’s through senior adult choirs. A bachelor’s degree in music with an instrumental skill is required with seminary training a plus. Also a minimum of 3-5 years of experience is necessary. Our church is an active, friendly, missions minded body seeking to do God’s  will in reaching people locally and around the world by making disciples of Christ of all those who enter our fellowship.

Position Title:            Associate Pastor for Worship and Music

 

Purpose:

            The Associate Pastor for Worship and Music is called to lead the congregation in meaningful worship and ministry experiences that honor God.  This person will create and develop an atmosphere for spiritual and musical growth that empowers children, youth and adults to participate in worship and praise to God.

2.         A team player who develops strong relationships with the pastor, other staff members, and music and art leaders for the advancement of the kingdom of God through First Baptist Church.

4.         A person with a contagious personality who will lead the congregation into a deeper involvement in worship.

 

Pastoral Skills:

1.         Passion for reaching the unsaved/unchurched/dechurched.

2.         A mentor and equipper for those involved in music ministry, encouraging and enabling people to reach their full potential in service for Christ.

3.         An approachable person who understands their strengths and weaknesses.

4.         A servant leader.

 

Musical Skills:

1.         One who has attained skills in applied music, music theory and music history.

2.         Proficient in at least one accompanying instrument.

3.         Knowledge of theory and harmony with ability to write simple musical scores for hand bell parts, instrument parts, or descants.

             

Responsibilities:

1.            Oversees and develop a comprehensive music ministry for all ages.

2.         Enlists, equips and provide regular on-going training and planning with music leadership team, to include various instrumental ensembles.

3.         Provide leadership for the Sanctuary Choir, Praise Team, Praise Band, Youth Choir and Hand Bells..

4.         Assists the pastor in creating and planning meaningful worship experiences.

5.         One who has a growing musical library and makes use of treasured heritage of hymns, classical and sacred music as well as praise and worship and contemporary sources available.

6.         Ability to learn and apply technology to enhance music and worship experiences.

7.         Organize, plan and implement a pastoral care plan to the persons and families involved in the music ministry.

8.         In consultation with the appropriate committees, prepare an annual budget to be recommended to the Budget and Finance Committee.  Administer the approved music budget.

9.         Participates in staff assigned pastoral duties.

10.      Develops quarterly plans and evaluation of music ministries.

11.            Other duties as assigned.
